Empowering Smiles
Elevating Confidence
Dentures and Partials
Powder Springs, GA
Restoring your smile after tooth loss is one of the most meaningful steps you can take for your daily quality of life, whether you’re missing one tooth or a full arch. Tooth loss is more common than many people realize: according to the CDC, about 1 in 10 adults between the ages of 65 and 74 have lost all of their teeth, and that number climbs to 1 in 5 for those 75 and older. Modern denture options make it possible to restore full function, comfort, and confidence, no matter where you’re starting from.
At Esteem Dental Studio in Powder Springs, Georgia, Dr. Yokeca Nicole Watts and Dr. Karan Thachil offer complete, partial, and implant-supported dentures as part of our restorative dentistry services. From the moment you walk in, you are greeted by name, often by office manager Tara herself, and given time to talk through what brought you in before your appointment even starts. Our team also includes staff who speak Spanish natively, so you can talk with us comfortably in the language you’re most at ease in.
Denture Care and Dental Partials
What Are Dentures?
Dentures are removable or fixed prosthetic appliances designed to replace missing teeth and the surrounding tissue. They have been a trusted tooth replacement solution for generations, and today’s options are far more comfortable, natural-looking, and well-fitting than what most people picture when they hear the word. Modern dentures are crafted to match your natural gum tone and tooth shape so that the result feels like yours.
At Esteem Dental Studio, we offer three primary types of dentures to fit a range of needs and budgets.
Types of Dentures We Offer
We offer patients the following types of dentures based on their unique situation:
Complete Dentures
Complete dentures replace an entire upper or lower arch of teeth. They rest on the gum tissue and are typically recommended when all natural teeth in that arch have been removed. Conventional complete dentures are placed after the gums have fully healed, while immediate dentures can be inserted the same day as extractions so you are never without teeth during the healing period.
Partial Dentures
When you still have healthy natural teeth remaining, a partial denture fills the gaps left by several missing teeth. It attaches to the surrounding teeth using small clasps or precision attachments, keeping it stable while you eat and speak. Partials also help prevent your remaining teeth from shifting into the open spaces over time, which protects the alignment and bite you have now.
Implant-Supported Dentures
For patients who want a more stable, long-term solution, implant-supported dentures anchor to dental implants placed in the jawbone. This eliminates the rocking or slipping that removable dentures can sometimes experience. Implant-supported options also help preserve jawbone density by providing the stimulation the bone needs to stay strong.
Each of these options comes with its own candidacy considerations, and our team will walk you through which one fits your clinical situation and your goals. The right choice depends on factors like your bone health, the number of teeth remaining, your lifestyle, and your budget. We want you to feel completely settled in whatever direction you take.
What to Expect During the Denture Process
The path to dentures involves several appointments spaced over a period of weeks, and we are with you at every step, walking you through what comes next before you ever sit in the chair. The process typically begins with a comprehensive exam that includes traditional X-rays along with a 3D scan of your teeth, so you can see a clear, easy-to-follow image of what is happening in your mouth rather than just hearing about it. We take the time to walk through what we find and answer your questions with the same attention to detail throughout, whether this is your first appointment or your last. If any remaining teeth need to be removed before your denture is placed, those extractions can be handled here in our office.
From there, we take detailed impressions of your mouth and work with a dental lab to fabricate your prosthetic. You will have a fitting appointment where adjustments are made to ensure the fit is precise and comfortable, and every visit is handled with the same intention and care, so you always feel like more than an appointment on the schedule. Once you receive your final denture, we will go over care instructions and schedule follow-up visits to make sure everything is working well for you.
Caring for Your Dentures
Dentures require daily maintenance to stay clean and to protect your gum health. Here are the core care habits to keep in mind:
- Remove and rinse your dentures after eating to clear away food particles and prevent buildup.
- Brush your dentures daily with a soft-bristled brush and a non-abrasive denture cleaner, not regular toothpaste, which can scratch the surface.
- Soak removable dentures overnight in water or a denture solution to keep the material from warping or drying out.
- Continue brushing your gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth each day to maintain healthy tissue.
Even with the best daily habits at home, regular dental visits remain important. Your gums and jawbone change over time, which means the fit of your denture will need to be assessed and adjusted periodically.
Are Dentures Right for You?
Not every patient with missing teeth is an automatic candidate for every type of denture. Bone volume, gum health, the number and position of remaining teeth, and your overall health all play a role in determining the best fit for your situation. Some patients move from removable dentures to implant-supported options as their needs evolve, and that is a conversation we are always ready to have.
If you are somewhere between early tooth loss and toothlessness, it may also be worth exploring whether options like dental implants, crowns and bridges, or a combination approach might serve you better long-term. Our goal is to give you the full picture before any plan is made, not just the fastest route to a result.
If you have questions about what to expect in terms of chewing function, speech, or adjustment time, bring them to your consultation. There are no questions that are too small, and we would rather you come in informed and prepared than leave anything unspoken.
